Event: East Coast will name a Class 91 electric locomotive (number 91109) ‘Sir Bobby Robson’ in tribute to the late football legend and former Newcastle United and England manager. Lady Elsie Robson and Alan Shearer will unveil the new train name.

Please note Alan Shearer will be available for brief interviews regarding the train-naming and Sir Bobby Robson Foundation only and Lady Elsie is available for filming and photos but not interviews - thank you.

Venue: Platform 3, Newcastle Central Station. Please meet at the Station Management Centre reception, east end of the main concourse, at 08.00 hrs.

TRAIN operator, East Coast, is to launch the start of a new train-naming programme with the unveiling of the ‘Sir Bobby Robson’ locomotive in memory of the footballing legend, ‘Toon’ hero and former England manager.

Sir Bobby’s widow, Lady Elsie Robson, and former England and Newcastle United captain, Alan Shearer, patron of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation charity, will carry out the train-naming along with East Coast Chairman Elaine Holt at Newcastle Central Station on Tuesday 29 March.

The ‘Sir Bobby Robson’ Class 91 electric locomotive (number 91109) will feature specially-commissioned, cast-iron nameplates.

East Coast is also pledging its support for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, the cancer charity set up by Sir Bobby in 2008.

Thanks to fantastic ongoing support, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has now raised over £2.5 million to help find more effective treatments for cancer.

You are invited to send a photographer/camera operator and/or reporter to cover the train-naming ceremony at 08.25 hrs on Tuesday 29 March at Newcastle Central Station, before the newly-named train departs for London King’s Cross at 09.00 hours.

Upon arrival at the station, media should sign-in at the Station Management Centre by 08.00hrs, where they will be met by a representative of the East Coast press office. The station management centre is located at the east end of the main concourse, next to the Centurion cafe bar.
